Veneers can work wonders for any teeth that require cosmetic correction. For example, if you have any teeth that are deformed, damaged, smaller, or shorter than you like or an unsightly gap, veneers might help you achieve the perfect smile.

What Porcelain Veneers Can Be Used to Address:

Wear and Tear:As we age, our teeth experience wear and tear and the enamel often look tired and worn. Some types of tooth enamel can wear out faster due to a genetic predisposition or consumption of certain types of medication. Veneers can breathe life into your smile and help you appear more youthful and radiant.

Uneven Teeth: Teeth can appear uneven due to gnashing, grinding, or biting. Porcelain veneers are an ideal solution to correct uneven teeth.

Teeth Discolouration: Stubborn stains and tooth discoloration may not be entirely treatable with a teeth whitening treatment. In such cases, veneers can be a superior alternative.

How to Care for Porcelain Veneers

Practice Good Hygiene – Similar to natural teeth, your porcelain veneers should be brushed twice and flossed daily. Proper dental hygiene helps protect against problems such as gum disease and tooth decay. Make sure you see your dentist for regular check-ups to prevent and avoid serious problems.

Stop Certain Habits – Putting your dental veneers under excess pressure can lead to fractures or chips in the porcelain. Try to avoid biting your fingernails, chewing on ice and opening packages with your teeth, as these actions can stress your veneers unnecessarily.

Avoid Discolouration – Porcelain is stain-resistant, but your natural enamel is not. Avoid black tea, coffee, red wine, or tobacco, which can stain your teeth and make your veneers look out of place. Whitening treatments can brighten your enamel and achieve colour consistency.

Avoid Grinding and Clenching Teeth – You must avoid grindning or clenching your teeth as it can waear down your veneers and cause damage to porcelain. Dr. Dimitrov can talk about treatment options that can help you prevent this habit from occurring.

Questions We Often Hear From Patients

Are Dental Veneers Permanent?

Dental veneers are generally considered to be a semi-permanent dental procedure. This is because the process of applying veneers involves removing a small amount of the tooth’s enamel to allow for the placement and proper fit of the veneer. This alteration of the natural tooth is irreversible. While the veneer itself can be replaced, the fact that the underlying tooth structure has been modified means that the tooth will always need to be protected with a veneer or another type of dental restoration.

Can Dental Veneers Stain?

Porcelain veneers are highly resistant to staining due to their non-porous nature. They are much more stain-resistant than natural teeth or composite resin veneers. However, composite resin veneers are more prone to staining over time. While veneers resist most stains, avoiding or limiting foods and beverages known to cause staining, such as coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco products, is still recommended to maintain their appearance.

Can Veneers Be Removed or Replaced?

Veneers can be replaced if they become damaged or worn or if there are issues with their fit or appearance. However, since the placement of veneers involves the removal of tooth enamel, the process is not reversible; a tooth that has been altered to accommodate a veneer will always need some form of covering. The replacement process of veneers is similar to the original process of application. Care should be taken when replacing veneers to avoid further reduction of the underlying natural tooth structure.
