What are the steps of a routine check-up?

Inspection
The Mission Hill team will check the condition of your mouth by starting with a thorough inspection of your entire mouth, this might include X-rays. Your gums will be checked for any signs of gingivitis by softly poking the gums to determine gum health. You will then be given a comprehensive flossing, with the goal to clean any difficult areas that are difficult to reach with a toothbrush.

Teeth Cleaning
Dr. Dimitrov will use an ultrasonic tool to clean your teeth. This device vibrates and rotates to loosen tartar, plaque, and bits of food. Water will be continuously sprayed to help with removal, and a suction tube will be placed in the mouth to help remove the spray. After this, Dr. will use a tool known as a “scaler” to help clean any remaining smaller pieces of tartar from your teeth.

End Step for Tooth

Polishing and Fluoride Treatment
After your teeth have been cleaned, your teeth will be polished, which will give your teeth a shiny and smooth surface. Lastly, if you wish you will be treated with Fluoride, which protects the enamel coating of your teeth and protects against potential cavities.

Therefore, we recommend reviewing your current insurance coverage before booking an appointment.

You do not have to get x-rays at every check-up. Typically we will do routine x-rays once per year. If you have any concerns about x-rays, you can consult with us.

Does teeth cleaning help whiten teeth?

Yes, scaling and polishing can remove some stains on your teeth, giving the effect of whiter teeth.

Will a teeth cleaning hurt?

Getting a teeth cleaning should not hurt if your tooth and gum health is optimal. However, if you are worried about discomfort, you can take an Advil before your appointment.

How soon can I eat or drink after getting my teeth cleaned?

Without fluoride – you can eat or drink immediately.
If you received fluoride – you need to wait thirty minutes before you can eat or drink
