Benefits of Dentures

Inspection Icon

Comfort
Modern dentures have come a long way, including their comfort. Dentures today are designed with comfort in mind and can easily be wearable all day. Patients no longer have any restrictions on what they can eat when they wear their prosthetic teeth.

Protect Your Oral Bone Structure
If a patient is missing teeth, their oral bone structure will begin to perish. Wearing dentures decreases the rate at which these bones disintegrate.

End Step for Tooth

Increased Self-Confidence
Dentures restore missing teeth and help to eliminate any social awkwardness an individual might feel from missing teeth in their smile.

Questions We Often Hear From Patients

What are the four types of dentures?

There are four types of dentures:

  • Fixed Bridge –  One or more false teeth are held between healthy teeth on both sides. These bridges are not removable by yourself.
  • A partial denture (removable partial dentures) – One or more false teeth are held in place with clasps that fit onto nearby healthy teeth. You can remove a partial denture for cleaning and at night.
  • Complete Dentures – If you are missing all your teeth, complete dentures allow a way to completely replace all your natural teeth.
  • Dental Implants – Dental Implants are used to support false teeth or dental bridges. A small metal post is inserted into healthy gums and jawbone. Over time, the post will integrate with the bone around it. The post or implant will act like an anchor to hold one or more false teeth in place
How many teeth do you get with Dentures?

Dentures provide flexibility if you are missing one or all of your teeth.

Implants are normally employed to support a denture when there are no teeth in the jaw, but there is sufficient bone mass that will hold the implants. This can be one implant to an entire mouth.

In a consultation with Dr. Dimitrov, he will review your mouth, lifestyle, and other factors which determine what the best denture route will be.

What can I not eat with Dentures?

Although Dentures that we currently use are durable, and you do not have to avoid any food, you can exercise caution for the following:

  • Hard Foods – be careful when eating hard foods such as nuts, ice, corn on the cob, and apples. You want to ensure your bite pressure is evenly distributed.
  • Sticky Foods –  Foods that are sticky such as toffee, caramel, marshmallows or dried fruits, can cause a denture to dislodge.
  • Foods and Drinks that Stain – Dentures like natural teeth can stain when exposed to particular food or drinks. If possible, avoid drinking staining beverages such as coffee, tea, or red wine. Smoking can stain dentures as well.
