How Does Invisalign Work?
The Invisalign timelines are completely independent for each patient, but the steps are usually the same

Inspection (X-Rays & Imaging)
Invisalign treatment starts with Dr. Dimitrov taking initial X-rays, images, and impressions of your teeth. All this information is used to create a 3-D image of your mouth.

Treatment Plan Creation
Your Invisalign aligners or trays are built off your X-rays and impressions. The process with take into account the movement of your teeth into your eventual perfect smile.

At Home Treatment / Alignment
You will then receive your custom trays. The trays will be slightly different from the ones before it. As your teeth move closer and closer to the desired result, the number of trays you need will decrease. Dr. Dimitrov will closely monitor how your teeth move with monthly visits to assess your treatment.
For Invisalign to be its most effective, it is recommended that the aligners are worn 22 hours of the day and taken out only to eat and drink. Your tray schedule is based on the initial scans, Dr. Dimitrov’s expertise and how well the trays are fitting on your teeth. The process typically takes from 12 – 24 months, though treatment time varies.

Benefits of Invisalign

Increase Your Confidence
Crooked, misaligned teeth can take toll on both your confidence and self-esteem. Invisalign offers a great way to correct your teeth while being less noticeable versus traditional metal braces.

Flexible in Everyday-Life
Metal braces can cause many inconveniences in daily life from having to avoid certain foods which can get stuck in braces. Braces are historically tougher to clean. Invisalign allows you to simply pop out your aligners so you can enjoy your food, and brush, floss and rinse normally. The aligners are easily cleaned by brushing and rinsing in lukewarm water.

Less Dental Appointments Needed
Metal braces require more frequent office visits for adjustments, typically three – four weeks. Invisalign checks are every six weeks, and are a much briefer visit where Dr. Dimitrov will monitor your progress.

What Can Invisalign Fix?
Invisalign fixes minor alignment issues to solving more serious alignments. Below are some of the conditions that Invisalign can help with:
Overbite: When the upper front teeth overlap the lower teeth. An overbite can contribute to jaw pain and wear down your teeth over time. Invisalign can help to reposition your teeth and help minimize an overbite.
Underbite: An underbite is when your lower front teeth sit in front of the upper teeth, meaning your lower jaw might be positioned too far forward.
Crowded Teeth: Your teeth might not have enough space in your jaw to come in straight. This can lead your teeth to overlap, twist and bunch-up. Invisalign is a treatment option that can fix the problem of overcrowded teeth.
Tooth Gaps: Spacing issues between your teeth can affect the appearance of your smile by causing visible gaps. If not treated, gaps in your teeth can become problematic. Invisalign helps to bring the teeth together and straighten your smile.

Questions We Often Hear From Patients
How Long are Invisalign Braces Worn For?
Treatment time depends on several factors, including the amount of movement needed from the teeth, the teeths condition, and the patient’s age. We advise the process can take 12-24 months.
Are the Invisalign Braces Comfortable?
Compared to metal braces, Invisalign is much more comfortable. There is no risk of catching metal on lip tissue. The trays are removable while you eat. There is usually some pressure or soreness when you start a new tray as the teeth are changing or moving.
Do I Have to Wear a Retainer After Invisalign?
Yes, usually only when your sleep. Dr. Dimitrov will choose the best retainer based on your needs.
How Long am I Supposed to Wear the Invisalign Trays Each Day?
Invisalign’s success is dependent on how much you wear your trays. They should be worn 22 hours daily and only taken out to eat and clean your teeth. They can be removed for special events such as an interview or wedding, but we suggest being worn as much as possible.
