Temperature changes or sweets may also trigger discomfort if the seal is not perfect. The solution might be as simple as a bite adjustment or polishing, or it may require repairing or replacing the filling if there is decay or a crack. An exam and x-ray help us pinpoint the cause and relieve the pain quickly.

Mild sensitivity to cold, heat, or biting is common for a few days after a new filling as the tooth settles. If the filling is slightly high, the ligament around the tooth can become sore when you chew, and a small bite adjustment usually solves it. Deep cavities or teeth that were already inflamed may be sensitive for longer while the nerve calms. Use a soft brush and a desensitizing toothpaste and avoid chewing hard foods on that tooth for a short time. If sharp pain or pressure sensitivity persists, we will evaluate and correct it.
